‘No-line’ coloring is a fun technique for creating a softer image with your Spectrum Noir markers. This tutorial will share with you some tips and tricks for achieving this look.
Here a stamp has been mounted onto a Rock-a-Block stamping mount and inked using Memento Ink in Tuxedo Black and London Fog. This will enable you to compare the results achieved when coloring an image in both of these inks. London Fog is a paler pigment and will produce less obvious lines as the image is colored.
Stamp the image on the card stock of your choice. Here Neenah Classic Crest Card has been used. The skin of these sweet images have been colored using Spectrum Noir markers FS2, FS4, FS6, TN2, to create depth and contour. On the lighter image Spectrum Noir marker IG10 is used to add depth to the eyes of the figure.
The hair of both figures is colored using Spectrum Noir markers CT2, GB2, GB3, GB4, GB6, GB7. You can see in the picture above, that a much softer effect is being created on the image on the right, as there are no heavy ink lines in the hair.
A closer look at both of the figures so that you can compare the hair color.
The dress and tights of both images are colored using Spectrum Noir markers BP1, BP2, BP3, blended with PP3, PP4, PP5 to create a color gradient.
Spectrum Noir marker PP3 has been blended into the cheeks of both figures with FS2 and small white dots have been added to the cheeks and dress of the image.
A more detailed look at the figures. On the image on the right you are creating a soft, almost watercolor effect.
Next to be colored is the rabbit in the image. Spectrum Noir marker EB2 EB3 are used to color the fur.
The pigment is applied using brush nibs to create the effect of fur and more depth and definition is added with the use of Spectrum Noir Blender applied to the rabbit fur with a terry cloth.
Shadow is added to the tail of the rabbit with Spectrum Noir marker IG2.
The colored images have been cut with an oval die cut.
You can see the much softer effect created with the use of the lighter ink pigment. Using a even lighter ink pigment will further remove the lines from your image.
Background detail has been added with Spectrum Noir IG2 and the Blender pen to create the ground detail.
Sky is added with Distress Ink, a sponge applicator and a scalloped die cut.
The coloring is complete. The images are mounted onto mats of Coredination card and are ready to be added to a card or craft project. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. This is an easy technique and you can clearly see the differences produced by varying the color of your stamping ink.
